The Girl with the Pink Hair

The girl with the cotton candy pink hair
Bubblegum-flavored lipgloss
Fishnet stockings paired with hot pink pumps
to match her shimmering star earrings
The same size as the star encasing her eyes
Simply a star she is, a gold mine of desire
Raw enviable talent, in a transparent yet solid shell
Everyone knows who she is but no one's able to identify her in a crowd
She's the one that every man wants to date but
doesn't know her name, where she's from, or her cares
The one who every girl dreams of being,
waking in the morning hoping to catch a glimpse of her
in the mirror
Or staring into their barren purses grasping for the silver piece
that will bring her closer to the surface
Yet the Girl with the Pink Hair doesn't exist,  can't be reached
And will never be found.
Never meant to replace her Jerica,
Jem accidentally crept into existence and became the girl Jerica
all of a sudden wished she could be.
Jerica, the girl who opened a shelter for troubled girls,
desperately holding to the coat tails of a man with "stars" in his eyes
and Jem's hypnotic melodies in his ears
Jem is the girl that we look into the mirror and want to see staring back,
the girl we all secretly wish he would see when he looks into our eyes
The girl who we can hide our true unbeautiful selves behind
The beginning of our ugliness and dissatisfaction began with this simple
afternoon cartoon based on a girl with a beautiful and caring soul
who just wants to be
the girl with pink hair.
